Kilkenny (30 minutes)

Kilkenny may be a small city, but it’s packed full of things to see and do. You’ll find art, shopping and history amidst a magnificent tangle of medieval streets and slipways. Kilkenny Castle is an impressive edifice overlooking the River Nore and, after a tour of its splendid interiors and a stroll around the leafy Castle Park, visitors can wander along the Medieval Mile towards the Medieval Mile Museum, the Black Abbey and St. Canice’s Cathedral before winding their way to the top the cathedral’s round tower to take in views of the city. You’ll find everything in between including a great selection of boutiques, galleries, bookshops and craft shops. There are practically countless places to eat from the casual and affordable to the high-end and Michelin-starred. Kilkenny City is a whole day out in itself and it’s a day well-spent. A twice-daily bus service also connects the city with Graiguenamanagh.
